The Lowdown...
What: We have organized this local shoreline cleanup in an effort to collect all sorts of trash, garbage, recyclables incl. plastics, metal, paper, etc. that don't belong in or around our shorelines.
Where: We will meet at Wellington Point Park in Ladner at 10am on April 22nd 2018 to go over our strategy and to rally all of our excited participants.
Why: THIS IS A NO BRAINER!!! Ultimately we chose to live in South Delta because for one reason or another, we absolutely love living here. We thought what better way to show our appreciation for the community we call home than by showing the earth & all its creatures that we can co-exist in a happy and healthy environment, now & for years to come.
When: We have chosen to have our Shoreline Cleanup on April.22nd 2018 for two reasons. One, what better way than to show appreciation for our local environment than to have it fall on Earth Day which is also celebrated internationally. Second, we really wanted to capitalize on trying to collect a significant amount of unwanted material from our shorelines by conducting our cleanup after the occurrence of the highest tides of the year. These tides bring with them tonnes of unwanted material that rests on our shorelines and will never see the oceans and rivers again until next years high tides. We want gather this material before giving it a chance to be dispersed with the tides again.
Final Details: Our goal is to cover shorelines that exist in both Ladner & Tsawwassen and everyone involved will be provided with trash pickers/bags to store everything collected while the cleanup is underway. When the cleanup is over, all of the collected material will be sorted and properly disposed of. This shoreline cleanup will have volunteers working to collect as much as possible from both land & sea/river, conducting our work by foot and by boat.
